Several Neem researches have been done in India regarding Neem and its contraceptive effects.
The Hyderabad-based National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), India has successfully developed two variants of coital vaginal contraceptives from neem oil. The variants of the herbal contraceptives developed by NRDC are called pre-coital vaginal contraceptive and post-coital (postovulatory) oral. In addition to these oral contraceptives, an abortifacient agent has also been identified from neem by the scientists at NRDC.
A research conducted on 20 married soldiers from the Indian Army over the course of one year showed that a daily oral dose of several drops of neem seed oil placed in gelatin capsules prevented pregnancy in each of the wives during the period of the study. The effect took 6 weeks to become 100% effective.
Researchers working on Neem extracts at the Dr. S. R. Chavan of Dept. of Phytochemistry, Haffkine Institute, Bombay has isolated from Neem leaves, alkanes which gave 100% mortality at 10 ppm concentration for 5 days on Culex mosquitoes.
Indian Research has shown that the seed oil of Azadirachta indica (Neem) can control nearly 200 species of insects. Neem oil has also proven effective and has been able to inhibit increases in blood sugar levels by as much as 45% in test animals. Researchers in India, Europe and Japan have now found that polysaccharides and limonoids found in neem bark, leaves and seed oil which reduced tumors and cancers and showed effectiveness against lymphocytic leukemia.
